THE CYNICAL 'ART' OF GETTING IT WRONG

One of the aims of the dramatic storyteller/screenwriter is to present the most complex emotions and emotional relationships in the clearest and most vivid ways possible. This does not mean that one should assume that the emotions presented must be simplistically conceived and delineated, which is one of the major vices of bad screenwriters. The guiding principle when it comes to the dramatization of complex emotions is to seek clarity as much as possible while at the same time doubting it with equal vigour.
